Testing Quick Release Tensioners
These devices have been designed by Mike Sandlin and generated some curiosity by reputed aircraft designers. So I went and ripped them apart. Here are the results.
Notes:
-keep in mind that these devices are for the landing wires only, NOT for flying wires which carry all the load all the time.
-in almost all cases the wire breaks first. When it did not, bad choice for the other materials was the reason.
-in one case the bolt wrapped itself around the cable shackle. This can and must be avoided by using a good lug plate.
