During summer 2003 I have visited Egon Polla in Switzerland, who managed to officially register a homebuilt foot launchable Ultralight Sailplane in Switzerland ten years ago. This is unique because in Switzerland they prohibit ultralight aircraft. It never occurred to me that it might still be possible to register an ULF-1. Egon's path of success was that he registered exclusively for foot launch operation. Based upon the fact that Egon was born in 1924, the authorities agreed, thinking that this then 70 years old chap would never be able to actually fly, foot launching. The total duration of his first flight was two hours... think of it.
